5:25--Aspects of school and education are discussed such as the location of her school in Belton, SC, the length of the typical school day and year, and the general curriculum offered. Her parents did not attend a formal school but rather were taught by their slave masters. Her sister Lola was the first in her family to attend college (Anderson).
23:05--Mrs. McDowell recalls that blacks were treated harshly by law enforcement when she was a youth. She also is aware of lynching incidents that occurred against both blacks and whites. She then briefly discusses marriage relationships, and her own marriage in Anderson, SC.
