45th Anniversary of Computer Science at Clemson University

July 2023 marks the 45th anniversary of the Department of Computer Science at Clemson University. While the department was officially founded in 1978, efforts to bring computation to Clemson began in the 1960s. In the years since, Clemson has been at the forefront of Computer Science education, eventually forming the School of Computing and now offers programs in many areas of Computer Science, such as Applied Computing, Biomedical Data Science and Informatics, Computer Information Systems, Digital Production Arts, and Human-Centered Computing.

This site was created to house oral history interviews of Clemson Computer Science faculty and articles related to the history of computer science at Clemson.

See A Short History of the Clemson University School of Computing for more information. Thank you to Dr. Mark Smotherman, whose initial research made much of this project possible.
